Trojans Top UALR in Trojan Battle

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's tennis team topped Arkansas-Little Rock, 6-1, in an entertaining battle of the Trojans at the Lunsford Tennis Complex Friday afternoon. The victory raised Troy's record to 6-7 on the year.
The Trojans captured their fourth victory out of their last five matches and won their fourth home game of the year today. They also increased their conference record to 2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
In doubles action, the Trojans went 2-1. Rawia Elsisi and Annabelle Bares defeated Laetitia Bourgeon and Anne Wijenborg in a shutout of 8-0. The number two team of Troy, Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Giujt, fell to Anne Weijenborg and Rebecca Van Den Houte.
On the singles side of the court, Troy went 5-1 after an impressive performance on the court. Marine Arres dueled it out with UALR's Nathalia Garay for the victory of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Annabelle Bares defeated Anne Weijenborg 6-4, 7-6. Troy's only loss came from Caroline Jouanin falling against Patricia Cortes 7-6, 6-2. Mirte De Bakker gave Troy their final win of the day against Marta Gomez-Jordana winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in a three-set thriller.
The Trojans continue play at New Mexico State on Friday, followed by Southern Miss next Saturday.
