BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ? The Troy University Trojans look to end a
three-game losing streak tonight when they face Sun Belt East Division
co-leader Western Kentucky at E.A. Diddle
Arena.
Tonight's game will be the second consecutive game the
Trojans have faced the co-leader of the East Division, falling to the University of South Alabama Sunday afternoon.
“Our guys felt good about their play against South Alabama,”
Troy head coach Don Maestri said. “We need
to do more. We have another big game
tonight against Western Kentucky, and
hopefully we will play good and come back home playing good.”
Troy (10-14, 3-10 SBC) and Western Kentucky (19-5, 11-1)
have faced each other once this season, with the Hilltoppers coming out on top
in the contest 94-90.
In that game, senior guard O'Darien Bassett was the lone Trojan in double figures with 36
points. Meanwhile, Western
Kentucky was paced by Tyrone Brazelton's 29 points, including
connecting on 9-of-12 three-pointers. Western Kentucky's preseason pick on the All-SBC First
Team, Courtney Lee, was held to 17 points in the game.
The Trojans will be playing their sixth game in school
history against Western Kentucky, with the
Hilltoppers holding a 4-1 advantage in the series. They will look to build on the momentum they
started with their play against South Alabama
Sunday afternoon.
“We played hard on Sunday,” Maestri said. “We didn't beat ourselves, it was just that South Alabama played like they were the best team in the
conference. Not that we feel good about getting
beat, but I think we played better basketball than we did when we beat Arkansas
State and Louisiana-Monroe.”
The Trojans are led by Bassett's 17.8 points per game
average, while senior Justin Jonus
set a new Troy NCAA Division I record with 10 three-pointers against South Alabama. He
is averaging 14.4 points per game this season for Troy, while Trayce Macon is averaging 7.8 points per contest.
Western Kentucky is led by
Lee with 21.6 points per game, while Brazelton is averaging 13 points per game.
The game tips at 7 p.m. and can be hard on the Troy/ISP
Network with Barry McKnight providing the play-by-play. The game can also be seen on Fox Sports
Atlantic and WRJM-TV in Montgomery/Troy.
