BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Trojans women's basketball team will remain on the road to take on the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers in the third game of a five game stretch away from Trojan Arena.
The Trojans (3-6, 0-1) will look to rebound from a tough loss against Middle Tennessee to open Sun Belt Conference play. The Trojans fell to the Blue Raiders on Saturday night by a score of 82-46.
The Trojans are led this season by senior Kylie Morrissy who is averaging 14.9 points per game in 33.1 minutes. Sophomore Donette McNair gives the Trojans an inside threat as she is averaging 12.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game.
Both the Trojans and the Lady Toppers will be looking to end two game losing streaks. The Trojans lost to George Washington earlier this week. Western Kentucky (6-4, 0-1) fell to Ball State in overtime, 72-71, on Saturday, and to South Alabama earlier this week by a score of 66-59.
The Lady Toppers are led by last season's Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Arnika Brown. Brown is averaging a double-double with 17.1 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. Western Kentucky's outside threat is Kenzie Rich who averages 15.5 points per game on 30.7 percent three point shooting.
“They represented the Sun Belt in the NCAA Tournament last year,” said Trojan head coach Michael Murphy of the Lady Toppers, “If we come in here and compete, play with purpose, and play with passion, we'll give ourselves a chance to win”
Western Kentucky leads the all-time series against the Trojans 5-0. The two teams last met on February 14th of last season with the Lady Toppers winning 72-52 in E.A. Diddle Arena.
“Western Kentucky is going to be a tremendous challenge, but with it comes tremendous opportunity,” said Murphy.
Tip off is set for 7 pm at Western Kentucky's E.A. Diddle Arena.
