MURFREESBORO, Tenn. ? Despite the Blue Raiders outshooting Troy 14-4 in the first half it was
a battle throughout the entire first 90 minutes, but Middle Tennessee
ultimately prevailed 2-0 in SBC soccer action.
Shan Jones picked up her seventh goal of the year three minutes into the second half and Vanessa Muegler added a goal of her own in the 78th minute to conclude the scoring.
“We lost to a good team today. Middle Tennessee will be one of the top teams in the league again this year. Our girls fought hard unfortunately they were able to get a couple of second half goals to put us away,” head coach Chris Bentley said.
Goal keeper Ashley Branham recorded her second highest save total of the season with nine, but suffered her fourth loss of the year.
TROY (6-4-2, 1-2 SBC) was unable to put the ball in the net despite nine shots, three of which were on target.
Seniors Kate Heilich and Stephanie Haley led the Trojans with two shots each.
“If we could have made the best of our chances it could have kept us in the game. We've got to bounce back to get ready for Sunday,” Bentley said.
The Trojans will be back in action on Sunday when they face Western Kentucky. For more information stay tuned to TroyTrojans.com.
