Morrissy Named Third Team All-Sun Belt

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Troy senior guard Kylie Morrissy was selected to the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Third Team, announced by the conference office.
The senior was the second-leading scorer for the Trojans last season, averaging 13.5 points per game in 31 games. She also started all 31 games, playing 1018 total minutes - averaging 32.8 minutes per game.
Morrissy shot 44.3 (152-for-343) percent from the floor and 36.8 (65-for-180) percent from behind the arc. Both shooting percentages were good for third on the Trojans last season. She also shot 68.7 (90-for-131) percent from the free throw line and grabbed a team-leading 164 rebounds (5.3 per game). The senior also recorded 73 assists, six blocked shots and 25 steals last season.
Last season, Morrissy was named to two all-tournament teams which included the Fordham Holiday Invitational and the Tulsa Thanksgiving Classic.
"This is a great honor for Kylie," head coach Michael Murphy said. "She has worked extremely hard during her four years here at Troy, and that hard work has paid off with several recognitions including this one by the Sun Belt Conference. Kylie follows in the footsteps of her fellow Australian Amy Lewis, who was named All-Conference last season and is now playing in the WNBL for the Townsville Fire."
She is joined on the Third Team by Arkansas State's Shay Scott (So., F), ULM's Lottie Moore (Sr., G), South Alabama's Shakira Nettles (Jr., G) and Western Kentucky's Kenzie Rich (Jr., G).
On the Sun Belt Conference First Team are UALR's Anshel Cooper (Jr., G), UALR's Kim Sitzmann (Jr., G), Arkansas State's Veronica Smith (Jr., G), North Texas' Amber Jackson (Sr., F) and Preseason Player of the Year Dominique Duck (Sr., F) of Western Kentucky.
Rounding out the preseason teams on the Second Team are FIU's Monika Bosilj (Jr., G), Middle Tennessee Chelsia Lymon (Jr., G), New Orleans' Brittany Helm (Jr., G), North Texas Brittney James (Jr., G) and Western Kentucky's Arnika Brown (So., F).
The Sun Belt Conference Media Relations Office also released the preseason poll for the 2009 season and the Trojans were picked fifth in the East Division by the coaches. Middle Tennessee was selected to win the division with six first-place votes and 71 total votes, while last year's champion Western Kentucky was picked to finish second with six first-place votes and 68 total votes. South Alabama was picked to finish third with 48 total votes, followed by Florida International with one first-place vote and 43 total votes, Troy with 24 points, and Florida Atlantic with 19 total votes.
UALR and Arkansas State were selected as co-favorites with 83 points each in the West Division. North Texas was picked to finish third with 57 points, ULM was picked to finish fourth with 50 points, New Orleans fifth with 38, Denver sixth with 34 and Louisiana-Lafayette seventh with 19 total points.
Troy opens the season November 14th on the road at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Troy men were picked to finish sixth in the East Division just behind Florida International. Middle Tennessee was picked to win the East, followed by South Alabama, Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic. In the West Division, UALR and North Texas were picked to finish first, followed by Arkansas State, ULM, Denver and New Orleans.
The Trojans open the season November 15 against UAB at Trojan Arena.
