Bassett Earns Sun Belt Player of the Week

New Orleans, La. - Troy University senior guard O'Darien Bassett was named the Sun Belt Conference player of the week for games played between December 17-January 6 the league announced on Monday.
Bassett got off to a tremendous start in Sun Belt Conference play by averaging 30.3 points per game against the top three teams in the league's pre-season poll, South Alabama, Western Kentucky and North Texas. In the Trojans' five games during the Christmas break, he averaged 23.8 points while shooting 47 percent from the field including 46.5 percent from three-point range.
Bassett's top performance came against WKU when he scored a career-high 36 points. He followed that with a 30-point performance against North Texas, helping the Trojans to their first-ever victory over the Mean Green. Bassett leads the Trojans in scoring this season while ranking fourth in the Sun Belt Conference (19.4 ppg.).
The Carrollton, Ga., native is the first Trojan to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors since January of 2006 when then senior guard Bobby Dixon won the award twice.
The Trojans (8-6, 1-2) return to action on Wednesday night in Miami against Florida International. The Trojans will play at Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Jan. 12, in a 6 p.m. game that will be televised by ESPNU.
