Trojans in Fifth Place After Day One at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Troy University Trojans women's track team is fifth after the first day of competition in their opening meet of the season, the Clemson Invitational.
The Trojans trail first place Clemson, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Alabama heading into the final day of competition. They trail Alabama by just six points, and Georgia Tech by seven points heading into Saturday.
Tawanna Meadows opened the indoor season by running a NCAA provisional time of 7.42 in the 60-meter dash, finishing first in the preliminaries. Shelisia Crawford finished 23rd with a time of 7.85, while Juzil Rudolph finished 25th with a time of 7.89, Jocelyn Williams 28th at 7.92 and Sametria Matthews finished 46th at 8.19.
The Trojans scored in their first indoor event of the season when the Distance Medley team finished fifth in the event with a time of 13:00.36. The team of Kelly Harrington, Brittney McGhee, Brentley Collins and Jeanean Corcoran picked up four points for the Trojans in the event.
Rudolph also ran in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.79, but narrowly missing out on the finals by .01 seconds to Tacara Morrisey from Charlotte. Porsche Holden, running in her first meet for the Trojans, recorded a time of 9.05 in the 60-meter hurdles and finished 13th. Two other runners, Erin Clymer (9.83) and Megan Young (11.95) ran in the event.
In the field events, Tiphanie Baker continued her strong performance from last season with a throw of 16.71 meters in the weight throw, placing her second after the preliminaries. Monique Jordan registered a throw of 14.38 meters to finish eighth after the preliminaries. In the finals of the event, Baker finished third and Jordan eighth for theTrojans.
Agata Cichoszewska competed in the high jump for the Trojans, finishing 21st with a jump of 5.08 meters, followed by Matthews (4.71 meters), Clymer (4.69 meters) and Young (4.34 meters).
The event concludes Saturday afternoon at Clemson University.
