Trojans Aim to End Streak

TROY, Ala. ? Following a heart breaking one-point loss to Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday the Troy Trojans will head to Jonesboro, Arkansas to face Arkansas State on Saturday at 7:05 pm aiming to end a three-game losing streak.

Troy (8-9, 1-5) fell to the Blue Raiders 65-64 in a game that saw senior guard O'Darien Bassett miss a buzzer beater that would have given the Trojans a two-point victory.

Coach Don Maestri believes Bassett, who is averaging 24 points per game in Sun Belt play, and the rest of the Trojans will be ready for Saturday night's match-up.

“Our kids are very resilient. Obviously they were very disappointed with the loss on Wednesday, but they came back and worked hard in practice, with a lot of energy, to get ready for Arkansas State,” he said. “We are looking forward to playing a good game. This group has a very special bond together and I expect they are going to play hard.”

Maestri is well aware of the tough conference opponent his squad will face, but he is confident in his team and thinks with a little luck they can right the ship.

“Arkansas State is a team that plays its best when they are at home, so I expect we will get their best. They have struggled some away from home, but they play very well in their own building,” he said.

“We've played some very good games at times on the road this year, at A&M Corpus Christi and at South Alabama. I feel good about our chances to go in and be competitive. We just need a few bounces and a few whistles to go our way, which hasn't been the case lately.”

The Indians (8-9, 3-4 SBC) are coming off a 59-52 defeat at Denver.

Following Saturday night's game the Trojans will return home to face Arkansas-Little Rock. The game is scheduled for Thursday night at 7 pm at Trojan Arena.
