TROY, Ala. ? Troy University head men's basketball coach Don Maestri looks to start his second quarter-century on the bench for the Trojans in November with more games schedule for Trojans Arena than any other season in his career.
The Trojans will play 16 home games this year, the most for any Troy basketball squad since the 1969-70 team had 17 home dates. The schedule includes nine games against Sun Belt Conference foes and seven against a wide range of non-conference opponents.
"The schedule will have the most home games we have had since (David) Felix and I have been here," Maestri said. "We'll start off with a tough road stretch, but then we'll hit a stretch with six of seven games at home. I am hoping that makes a difference for us in gaining confidence."
The Trojans will open on November 5 with an exhibition game against in-state foe West Alabama. From there, five of the first six games will be on the road, with stops at Alabama (11/9), Utah Valley State (11/20), Georgia State (11/24), Ole Miss (11/27) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12/1).
The regular season home opener is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 14, against Paul Quinn College.
The December schedule features four straight non-conference games at Trojan Arena, starting with Shorter College (12/4), Alabama State (12/8), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12/15) and ending with Jacksonville (12/17).
Sun Belt Conference play will open on Thursday, Dec. 20, at South Alabama, followed by three more home games, against Western Kentucky (12/29), North Texas (1/3) and non-conference against Utah Valley State (1/5).
Other home league games for the Trojans will pit Troy against Middle Tennessee (1/16), Arkansas-Little Rock (1/ 24), Louisiana-Lafayette (1/ 27), Louisiana-Monroe (1/ 31), South Alabama (2/10), Florida International (2/23) and Florida Atlantic (2/27).
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will open with games at home sites on March 5 before moving to Mobile for the final three rounds March 9-11.
