Gaudin's Game Winning Goal Gives Troy the Win, 2-1

THIBODAUX, La. - Freshman Elena Gaudin scored the game winning goal in double overtime to give Troy a season opening 2-1 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday.
Both teams failed to score in the first 45 minutes and entered halftime knotted up at zero.
Troy's Kate Heilich was able to break the scoreless tie after an assist from freshman Ceil Martinec, chipping in a goal at the 68 minute mark.
The Colonels (0-1) would level things at one with just under ten minutes remaining when Kaity Mattssonn broke loose for an unassisted goal.
Troy (1-0) and Nicholls State would need more than just the first overtime to settle things and in the 116th minute of the match two more newcomers would come up big for the Trojans.
Ashley Davis found Gaudin for the game winning goal, giving the Trojans a season opening win.
Karla Smith started in goal for the Trojans and made nine saves.
Troy will be in action again on Sunday at 1 pm in Hammond, La. against Southeast Louisiana. The Trojans will play their home opener on Wednesday against Shelton State at 3 pm. Admission to all home soccer matches is free.
