Saturday Meet Program
TROY, Ala. -- More than 800 athletes from over 100 schools will descend on Troy this Friday and Saturday to participate in the Alabama State High School Athletic Association's 1A-2A-3A Track and Field Championships. More than 160 races are scheduled to be run during the two-day period, with action in the preliminary rounds getting underway at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Jesse H. Colley Track in the Track/Soccer Complex.
Meet Director and Troy Director of Track and Field Bob Lambert says that his staff is prepared to provide the athletes and spectators with the maximum possible support in terms of amenities for the meet. We'll have a scoreboard clock to keep the athletes, coaches and spectators involved in all of the races, and especially any race that demonstrates a potential for breaking a state record. We'll also be using individual field event performance indicators which inform spectators of distances thrown and/or heights and distances achieved in all field events.
"There will be ample seating for all who wish to view the meet on the finish line side. We're glad to be hosting this meet again at our fully completed Track/Soccer Complex. It's the most fan-friendly track and field facility in the United States,” said Lambert.
In addition to all the motels in Troy being booked solid, local merchants have been encourages to make a concerted effort to welcome the out-of-town guests with various specials and greetings on their advertising reader boards up and down U.S. 231.
Fans are encouraged to come out on Friday and Saturday to watch some top-flight track and field competition. Gates will open both days at 8:30 a.m., with an admission fee of $6 per day. Souvenir T-Shirts will also be sold at the stadium.
