TROY, Ala.- After waiting out a two and a half hour rain delay, sophomores Beau Brooks and Trevor Tyre provided the fireworks for Troy to lead the Trojans to a 6-4 win over New Orleans Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
"Beau hit the ball very well tonight," head coach Bobby Pierce said. "This is a big win for us and we need to win the series to put us in a good position down the road."
UNO (31-19, 14-11) used a home run from Greg Wolfe for the early 1-0 lead. The Privateers added two more runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to increase their lead to 4-1.
Troy (31-20, 14-11) took its first lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when senior Edgar Ramirez doubled to left followed by a walk to senior Clint Robinson. Ramirez scored on a ball hit by senior Kevin Weidlich. Sophomore Trevor Tyre then hit a ball deep to right for his third home run of the season to give the Trojans a 5-4 lead.
Senior Ian Craze hit his fifth home run of the season to give the Trojans a 6-4 lead.
Senior Clegg Snipes (5-5) got the win on the hill for the Trojans as he went six innings allowing four runs on three hits with only two of the runs being earned. He walked three batters while striking out seven. Senior closer Josh Dew pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up one hit with four strike outs, to earn his ninth save.
