NEW ORLEANS, La. -- On the heels of a record-setting heptathlon this weekend, Troy junior Juzil Rudolph has been named Sun Belt Conference Female Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. The award is the second in as many weeks for the junior from Montgomery.
Rudolph battled through cold and windy conditions at Auburn's Tiger Track Classic by setting a school record in the heptathlon with 5,049 points, just one short of NCAA provisional qualification. The difference was as small as 0.1 seconds in the 800 meters or just one-quarter inch in the long jump. She finished second overall to a student-athlete from Penn State, winning the high jump and placing second in five other events.
Rudolph established new personal bests in the javelin, high jump and shot put during the competition. She started Friday with a second-place finish in the 100 Hurdles at 14.43 seconds, before tying for second in the high jump at 1.62 meters (5-feet, 3.75-inches). The day concluded with a shot put throw of 11.51 meters (37-feet, 9.25-inches) and a 200-meter run in 25.67.
Saturday's highlight was a javelin throw of 31.91 meters (104-feet, 8-inches)..
Rudolph won the Sun Belt award for March 26 - April 1 for her efforts at the Coach O Invitational. In addition to several top relay times, she also set school and track records with a long jump of 19-feet, 7-inches.
