Meadows Shines at Auburn Spring Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. -- Junior Tawanna Meadows left no doubt that she's back as a force in the 100 meter dash. Competing at the Auburn Springtime Invitational, a meet where over 20 collegiate teams and clubs competed for individual and team-relay honors, Meadows ran one of her fastest times ever, winning the meet's marquee sprint race in a time of 11.77
A short time later, Meadows returned in the 200 and turned a 24.53 time for her best effort on the young season in that event, good enough for sixth in a field of more than 40 runners.
Tiphanie Baker enjoyed another outstanding meet in the discus event.For the third time in as many outings, the freshman from Leeds established a new school recordtossed the platter to a new school record (149-feet, 6-inches), bettering her Georgia Relays school record throw by over four feet and earning fourth place overall. Teammates Monique Jordan, sixth place at 138-feet, 7-inches, and Shenita Howell, seventh at 131-feet, 11-inches, gave the Trojans three finishers in the field of 25 throwers.Juzil Rudolph's long jump of 18-feet, 11.75-inches took seventh place in her specialty.
For the Trojan Men, reigning Sun Belt shotput champion Michael Heck returned to last year's form, as his toss of 52-feet, 6-inches earned him a fifth-place finish and bettered his performance at Georgia last week by over two feet. Teammate Ryan Baker continued his steady, strong performances in the hammer with a heave of 159-feet, 2-inches, garnering him fourth place. Norman Austin (190-feet, 11-inches) had another strong javelin performance in finishing less than 2 feet behind the winning throw of 192-feet, 4-inches.
Freshman Leander McKenzie returned to form in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.36 effort which took fourth place and just missed the NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark of 14.30. Sophomore Lamar Hicks had a strong day in the sprints, running a 10.75 in the 100 meters just minutes after turning a 50.47 in the 400 meters. Hicks' time earned him sixth place in the field of 44 runners.
The Trojans will compete at home this week in the Troy "Coach O" Invitational which begins at 11 Saturday morning at the Jesse H Colley Track. Eight schools are scheduled to compete in the Trojans' only home action of the season.
