Troy loses to Middle Tennessee and Loses Series

TROY, Ala.- Middle Tennessee used an 8-run seventh inning to beat Troy and take the conference opening series by a score of 11-7.

Senior Ian Craze led off the bottom of the first with a double to right field. Senior Edgar Ramirez blasted his second home run of the weekend giving Troy an early 2-0 lead. Seniors Clint Robinson and Josh Dew both walked and Robinson scored on a double by Kevin Weidlich. Robinson scored on a wild pitch making the score 4-0 after one inning.

Middle Tennessee (7-9, 2-1), plated three runs in the third on four walks, and a hit batter. Adam Warren also added an RBI single making the score 4-3.

Troy (10-8, 1-2) got a run back in its half of the third when junior Bryan Miller led off with a double to left field followed b a Ramon Orsini walk. Junior Charlie Calamia doubled to left center scoring Miller giving the Trojans a 5-3 lead.

Middle Tennessee scored eight runs in the seventh inning on four doubles, one single, one hit batter, and two walks.

Dew homered in the bottom of the ninth. The home run was his fifth of the season.

Troy loaded the bases in the ninth but could only manage two runs to close out the weekend.

Junior Rob Brown (2-1) took the loss on the mound for Troy. He threw four innings, giving up six runs on two hits.

The winning pitcher was Tyler Copeland (1-1). He tossed four scoreless innings and did not give up a hit.

The Trojans were led at the plate by Craze, Dew, and Weidlich. Each batter had three hits.

Troy will be back in action next weekend as they will travel to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic in conference action. First pitch Friday night is set for 6 p.m. CT.
