MIAMI - Sophomore Kylie Morrissy posted 16-points for Troy against Florida International on Wednesday night but it was not enough as the Trojans fell, 61-49.
Morrissy ended the game six for 14 and a perfect three for three from the charity stripe.
Also assisting the Trojans was junior Amy Lewis with 11 as she went four for 18 and two for six from behind the arc.
I think our girls tried hard and worked hard but Lewis struggled mightily from the floor shooting four for 18 and it just wasn't a very productive evening for her,? head coach Michal Murphy said.
Free throws proved to be the difference in the game as Troy attempted five in the game compared to FIU who attempted 19. FIU went scoreless for five minutes but maintained the lead as it hit 11 free throws during that time.
I have to give all the credit to Florida International, Jeakabsone had a great game as she scored 23. This is the third game in a row we couldn't do anything with her. They go to the free throw line 19 times and we go five which also makes a difference,? Murphy said.
Lasma Jekabsone ended the game with 23 points as she hit seven for eight from the floor and a perfect nine for nine from the charity stripe.
La'Quetta Ferguson also added assistance to FIU with 11-points as she broke the scoring dry spell by hitting a three. Ferguson ended the game five for 14 and one for five from behind the arc.
FIU started the second half strong as it took a quick one-point lead out of the gate on two free throws and then battled to extend it to three, 35-32 14:38.
Troy committed three turnovers in a row as FIU extended its lead to seven, 48-41, 8:56. Lewis then hit two threes and a free throw to close the gap but FIU answered with 11 free throws to keep the lead at seven, 56-49, 3:42.
Troy led by one at the half, 28-27 after Morrissy hit a shot with two seconds remaining to put the Trojans up at the break.
Morrissy guided the Trojans at the half with 12-points as she hit four for eight from the field and all three of her free throws.
In the first half, Troy led by as many eight before the Golden Pathers caught up to make it a one-point game.
Jekabsone led FIU at the half with nine-points as she was a perfect four for four from the field. Bosilj added assistance with six-points of her own.
Troy ended the 2006-07 season with a record of 12-17 overall and 5-14 in conference play. FIU will play Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday 6:30 p.m.
