Final Four Minutes Prove Costly For Troy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Troy Trojans held UALR scoreless for the last four minutes of the game but it was not enough for the win as Troy fell, 58-51 on Saturday night.
Junior Amy Lewis made Troy's (12-13, 5-10 SBC) only basket in the last four minutes of play which cut the lead to seven.
UALR (17-9, 9-6) led by ten with 3:50 left in the game but Troy had matched UALR three for three as Lewis hit two from the top of the arc to keep Troy in the game. Lewis hit another three for Troy with 1:01 remaining to cut into the gap.
Lewis ended the game three for four from behind the arc and led all scorers with 15 points.
Sophomores Kylie Morrissy and Danielle Realph each made all four of their free throws to add assistance to the Trojan offense. Morrissy ended the game with 10-points while Realph posted nine.
Rebounds proved to be crucial in the match-up as defense kept each team from scoring in the final minutes. Troy had two less rebounds than UALR in the game with 27 led by Realph who grabbed seven.
UALR came out of the locker room after the half as it went on a 7-3 run to begin play. The Trojans of UALR never looked back as Troy continued to fight and cut the lead to sic with 13:10 remaining, 40-34.
UALR ended the game seven for 17 from behind the arc led by Kim Sitzmann who hit three of seven and led the scoring with 16-points.
The Trojans trailing by nine with 9:12 to play in the first rallied as they went on a 13-3 run to take the lead, 21-20. Troy would be unable to hold onto the lead but went into the half trailing by just one basket, 29-27.
Sophomore Larelle Roper led Troy at the half with seven-points and hit a three with 41 seconds remaining in the half to tie the game at 27. UALR's last two-points in the half came on two free throws by Renee Renz.
Freshman Alyce Shearing also posted six-points for Troy in the first half of play as she hit three of five shots attempted.
The difference in the first half proved to be free throws as UALR made nine of 13 with its last six points in the first half coming off free throws. Troy was perfect from the charity stripe in the first half making two of two courtesy of Realph.
Troy will have most of the week off to rest from its long road trip before playing host to Western Kentucky on Sat. Feb. 17 in a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game is set to tip at 5:15 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
