Troy Kicks Off Home Stand with Shorter

TROY, Ala. ? The Troy Trojans return home to Trojan Arena after four straight games on the road and will now play four straight at home beginning tonight with a match-up with Shorter College.

Troy enters the contest with a record of 2-4 and is looking to build on a victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Trojans defeated the Islanders 73-52, last Saturday in Corpus Christi.

The Trojans shot 66.7 percent from three-point range in the second half against Corpus Christi, hitting six-of-nine attempts to help build a 43-23 second half scoring advantage and put away in the Islanders.

One big contributing factor in Saturday's contest was the return of senior forward Jarvis Acker. Acker played 25 minutes, scoring six points, grabbing four rebounds and blocking a shot.

Troy will now face NAIA school Shorter College, a team the Trojans have not faced since the 1962-1963 season, but do hold a 7-0 series advantage over.

Seniors O'Darien Bassett (16.8 ppg) and Justin Jonus (18.3 ppg) will be counted on to lead Troy and carry the scoring load. In Troy's two victories Bassett and Jonus have averaged a combined 48.5 points per game.

The Trojans will also face Alabama State (12/8), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12/15) and Jacksonville (12/17) during the four-game home stand.

Tip-off Tuesday is scheduled for 7:30 pm with the men's team playing after the women's basketball team faces Mercer. Tip-off for the women's game is set for 5:15 pm.
