UL-Lafayette Drops Trojans, 2-0

TROY, Ala. ? Louisiana-Lafayette withstood strong offensive pressure from the Troy Trojans in the second half and held on for a 2-0 victory over the Trojans in Sun Belt Conference soccer action at the Troy Soccer Complex.

Troy (5-13, 2-8) had four shots on target, but was not able to find the back of the net as they dropped their third straight match.

Goalkeeper Karla Smith played a full 90 minutes for the 18^th straight game, and recorded five saves. She now has 154 saves on the season.

The Ragin' Cajuns got on the board first in the 26^th minute when Heather Fuller found Kelli Jestes on a run into the box for their first score.

Troy would contain the Cajuns until the 86^th minute when Emily Black would score unassisted on a breakaway to set the final margin.

“I thought we actually played pretty well,” coach Diana Niland said.

“We created a lot of good chances against a very tough team, but overall I thought we played pretty good.”

The Trojans will play their final game of the 2007 season on Friday when they face in-state rival South Alabama at the Troy Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
