Women?s Team Turns In Season-Best Effort

HOOVER, Ala. ? The Troy University women's cross country team turned in its best performance of the fall on Saturday, finishing fourth at the Great American Cross Country Festival at Spain Park High School.
Junior Jenean Corcoran (Orlando, Fla.) turned in the best time for the Trojans, completing the 5K race is 19:50.9, good for eighth place overall, just over a minute behind winner Lydia Willemse of Florida State, who completed the course in 18:43.9.
The men's team finished its 8K event in sixth place with sophomore Jeremy Moujoodi, a Hoover native, finishing a team-best 19th in 27:12.8. Leo Kormanik of the Atlanta Track Club won the race with a time of 25:37.3.
“The women were impressive, this was by far their best team effort,” assistant coach Tommy Barksdale said. “They have really worked hard on their pack running and it showed. They have made some big strides this year and they are improving each and every week.”
Following Corcoran for the Trojans were sophomore Jennifer Graham of Birmingham (20:51.2), freshman Kelly Harrington of Hoover (22:26.8), sophomore Kimberly Tompkins of Enterprise (22:36.5) and freshman Brentley Collins of Fayetteville, Ga. (23:11.3).
Florida State paced the women's race with an average time of 19:03.48 and a total score of 15. Birmingham Southern (71) and Southern Miss (75) placed just in front of Troy(98) with Ursuline College (117), Spellman (176) and Georgia Southwestern State (180) rounding out the field.
Following Moujoodi in the men's race for Troy were freshman Brett Lewis of Jonesboro, Ga. (27:37.1), sophomore Terrence Dixon of Stone Mountain, Ga. (27:59.8), freshman Tim Landry of Hoover (28:30.8), sophomore Adam Bradley of Marietta, Ga. (29:26.6) and junior Paul Booth of Daphne (29:58.3).
Central Michigan took the team crown in the men's race with an average time of 26:07.6 and a total score of 26. The Atlanta Track Club was second with 61 points followed by McNeese State (90), the Tallahassee Track Club (108), Birmingham-Southern (110) and Troy (125).
Both Troy teams will return to action this Saturday, October 20, at the Troy University Coach “O” Invitational at the Trojans Oaks Golf Course. The women's race is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the men's race set to begin at 9:30.
“Both teams are coming off good races and are looking to continue their success this weekend,” Barksdale said. “This will be our final tune-up for the conference championship.”
The Coach “O” is expected to have one of its largest fields in years, with teams from South Alabama, Georgia State, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Birmingham Southern and Southern Union slated to compete.
