TROY, Ala. -- Troy and North Alabama played scoreless for 90 minutes before a severe thunderstorm Wednesday, leaving each team with a tie Wednesday afternoon.
The squads were seconds away from beginning the start of the first overtime period when lightning was seen in the distance and the field was cleared. After a 45-minute delay, the game was called by the officials due to inclement weather and darkness.
Junior Jennifer Currie once again started in goal for the Trojans in place of the injured Laura Longard, recording four saves
The Trojans (0-1-1) were led offensively by junior Brittany Stoltz and freshman Nicole Targa. Both attempted four shots.
North Alabama goalkeeper Mally Cash answered with six saves of her own. Alison Woodman and Emily Cotham each attempted two shots for the Lions (2-0-1).
The Trojans best chance at scoring came in the 79th minute when Stoltz broke free for a shot only to see it deflected by Cash. However, Targa was unable to convert her shot off the rebound as it sailed high. Bonfield attempted two more shots in the closing minutes with both narrowly missing the net.
The Trojans will next play on Friday evening in Montgomery against Alabama State. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
