Trojans To Face Southern Miss In NCAA Opener

The Trojans, regular-season and tournament champions of the Sun Belt Conference in their first year of membership, are seeded second and will meet the No. 3 Golden Eagles on Friday. The Crimson Tide and Gamecocks will also meet on the opening day.
"I am so very prooud of this team for the way they have conducted themselves this year as well as for the way they have performed on the field," Troy coach Bobby Pierce said. "This is a very special team. It is a team that expects to win every time it steps on the field.
"Now that we know where we are going and know who we will be playing, I know this team will be ready."
Troy (45-14) was swept by Southern Miss in a three-game series in Hattiesburg in March but enters the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the nation, riding a 10-game win streak.
The Trojans were 3-0 this season against Alabama and Jacksonville State. Troy won in Tuscaloosa 8-5 on March 22 against Alabama. The Trojans downed Jacksonville State 13-3 in Jacksonville on Feb. 28 and 6-1 in Troy on March 7.
Tickets for the NCAA Regional will be available to the public beginning Tuesday morning, May 30, at 9 a.m. The cost for tournament tickets range from $25 for reserved bleacher seats, to $40 for reserved upper chairback seats to $50 for reserved lower chairback seats.
