4/12/2006 12:00:00 AM | Track & Field
Trojans will rely on both 4x100-meter relay teams to compete for the NCAA Qualifying marks. Both men and women's team are within one-tenth of a second of qualifying times.
The coaching staff hopes that the competition at Clemson will push them to their best efforts of the year,” said Troy head track and field coach Bob Lambert.
The men's 4x100m team will be composed of senior Louis Harris, junior DeLaRenta Hawkins and freshmen Lamar Hicks and Keaton Anderson.
The team looks to junior Brandon Hughes and freshman Drew Horner to lead the distance corps.
Hughes will be focusing on the 5,000-meter run and attempting to make the NCAA qualifying standard time of 14:10. At the Alabama Relays, Hughes won the title in this event.
In jumps, senior Michael Acree will be back in action in the long jump, after his three-week absence from a tight hamstring. Acree has all ready hit the qualifying mark, but looks to compete for a solid performance at the invitational.
In throws, leaders freshman Norman Austin and juniors Michael Heck and Ryan Baker will take the field to compete for solid performances and will look to break Troy record books in the shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin.
The women's 4x100m team will consist of sophomore Tawanna Meadows, junior Ronella Gollman and seniors Tanisha Davis and Mildred Harris.
In jumps, freshman Agata Cichozweska will be competing in the triple jump for the team after a couple weeks off from competition in her specialty.
In throws, freshman Monique Jordan is recovering from some pulled muscles, but should be ready for competition at the invitational. Jordan looks tp break school records in the hammer and discus.
Clemson will be a strong meet with many top Atlantic Coast Conference schools on hand to compete,” Lambert said. We're working hard this week and hope to compete well this weekend at what should be a big-time meet.”
The Clemson Invitational will begin on Fri. at 10 a.m. and lead into Saturday.
