CLEMSON, S.C.- Sophomore Tawanna Meadows once again found Clemson's Indoor Track and Field Facility to her liking as she broke two of her own Troy indoor school records in the 200-meter dash and 60-meter dash Friday at the Tiger Classic hosted by Clemson University.
Meadows and senior Tanisha Davis lead the way for the Trojans in sprints. Meadows finished second in the 200m with a time of 24.76 seconds, shattering her school record of 24.97 seconds set in 2005. She was edged out of first place by Raquel Ramseur from Western Carolina who came in at 24.75 seconds for a photo-finish fight for the first place title.
Davis teamed up with Meadows' in the 200m as she came in behind at third place with a time of 25.33 seconds, while junior Ronella Gollman had time of 25.74 seconds at ninth place. This gave the Trojans three runners in the top ten.
Not only did Meadows break the 200m school record, she broke her own record time in the 60m in the premliniaries and improving her times in finals.
In the 60m, Meadows broke her Troy record when she clocked in with a time of 7.54 seconds in the preliminaries, placing fifth out of 57 runners. This time was two hundredths of a second faster than her time of 7.56 seconds set in the preliminaries back in Dec. at the Clemson Invitational.
In the finals of the 60m, Meadows improved her time of 7.61 seconds she made in Dec., when she raced to 7.59 seconds finishing fifth out of 16 runners.
Davis also performed well in 60m when she came in sixth behind Meadows with a time of 7.63 seconds as her second best time at Troy putting her behind Meadows in the 60m indoor record books.
In the 30-team competition, Meadows and Davis were the only two sprinters to finish in the top six in both the 60 and 200m dashes.
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Jocelyn Williams came in 13th place with a time of 58.78 seconds, junior Carrie Wallace came in 23rd with a time of 1:00.22 and senior Mildred Harris came in right behind at 24th with a time of 1:00.25.
The distance medly relay team consisted of Wallace and freshmen, Laide Onikoyi, Jenean Corcoran and Brittney McGhee came in ninth with a time of 13:15.80.
The 4x400-meter relay team slipped up dropping the baton to end up finishing 12th with a time of 4:11.81. The team consisted of Wallace, Harris, Williams, and junior Monique Johnson .
"We would rather never drop a baton, but if it had to happen, better at Clemson than Murfreesboro on February 25th," Lancaster said.
In the 800-meter run, Onikoyi nearly broke the Troy 800m record when she came in seventh with a time of 2:20.89.
"I think if Laide had been in the fast heat she would have easily broken our school record of 2:19.6 set by Tara Woodard in 1998," said Troy's head women's coach Jill Lancaster.
In middle distances, Corcoran came in 28th respectively in the mile with a time of 5:41.99.
Also in her first 3000-meter run, freshman Jennifer Graham placed 34th respectively with a time of 11:15.23.

Also in the triple jump, freshman Agata Cichoszewska landed in the top placing ninth with a distance of 38-08.25.
"I think we made some good progress in preparing for the Sun Belt Championships in two weeks at Middle Tennessee State," said Lancaster.
The Trojans women's indoor track and field team will have a break until the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., at MTSU.
