Trojans Stay Strong Late in Final Seconds for Win

STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore Kylie Morrissy and junior Amy Lewis each posted double-doubles for Troy to lead the Trojans to victory over Georgia Southern, 58-53.
Troy (8-4, 1-1 SBC) had four players who notched double digits on the way to the win as it shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
Morrissy posted her fourth double-double of the season as she had 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Trojans against the Lady Eagles (5-6, 0-1 SOC). Morrissy was also a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe.
Lewis also guided the Trojans in the win as she posted 12 points and 10 rebounds. Nine of Lewis' 10 rebounds were on defense.
Georgia Southern got to within three with 7.7 seconds left but sophomore Danielle Realph knocked down two free throws to extend the lead to five and seal the deal for the Trojans.
Senior Valensia Hairston scored 13 points in the second half after going scoreless in the first. Hairston also had nine rebounds and was 3 for 4 from the free throw line.
Realph ended the game with 10 points and went 3 for 4 from the charity stripe.
Troy started the second half off strong scoring 10 unanswered points after Georgia Southern scored first to begin the half.
At the first media timeout in the first half the score was tied at four and each team had committed four fouls.
Freshman Alyce Shearing led the Trojans guided the Trojans at the end of the first half as she scored six of Troy's last eight points headed into halftime. Shearing ended the first half with eight points, seven rebounds and one steal.
Morrissy also led the Trojans at the half as she posted eight points, pulled down seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Troy will have the Christmas holiday off before returning to Trojan Arena to play host to Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
