Indoor Season Gets An Early Start At Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. -- The 2007 Troy University women's indoor track and field season will get off to an early start today when the Trojans open competition in the 18th ASU Kickoff Klassic at the ASU Convocation Center.
A total of 17 student-athleted from Troy will compete against indoor track and field competitors from schools such as Memphis, Ole Miss, Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock and many others.
The competition opens on Friday with scheduled events to include the Pentathlon and Heptathlon, the vault, weight throws and triple jumps as well as many of the sprint preliminaries.
Events will continue through Saturday evening.
Trojans scheduled to compete include junior Erin Clymer (Madison, Ala.) and freshman Megan Young (Florence, Ala.) competing in the Pentathlon. School record holders Tawanna Meadows (junior, Panama City, Fla.) and Monique Johnson (senior, Miami, Fla.) will be competing in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles as well as the 200-meter dash.
Junior College All-America transfer Juzil Rudolph (junior, Montgomery, Ala.) will also be competing in all three of those events.
In the throws, sophomore Monique Jordan (Tifton, Ga.), the school record holder in the hammer, will be competing in the 20-pound weight throw along with freshman Tiphanie Baker.
Junior Karla Blankenship (Douglasville, Ga.) and freshman Maggie Beck (Birmingham, Ala.) will compete in the pole vault.
Other sprinters competing will be sophomore Shea Matthews (Jonesboro, Ga.), senior Shakavia Henderson (Miami, Fla.), sophomore Faith Hampton (Sanford, Fla.), and sophomore Brittney McGhee (Jonesboro, Ga.) in the 55 and 200-meter dash events. Junior Jocelyn Williams (Sanford, Fla.) will run the 400 and freshman Laide Onikoyi (Riverdale, Ga.) will compete in the 600.
In the distance races sophomore Jennifer Graham (Birmingham, Ala.) will run the mile and sophomore Sara Jackson (Graceville, Fla.) will compete in the 3000 meters.
Baker and Jordan will also compete in the shot put. while Clymer and Young will come back on Saturday and compete in the high jump after completing the pentathlon on Friday.
