Cross Country Ready for Sun Belt Championships
10/25/2006 12:00:00 AM | Track & Field
This will be the biggest meet of their young lives,? Director of Cross Country Bob Lambert said of his team. Our teams are composed mainly of freshman and sophomores and we will be going head to head with the likes of South Alabama and their two All-Americans Vincent Rono and Toney Okello on the men's side.?
The men will look towards Jeremy Moujoodi to help lead the Trojans. Moujoodi has been the top finisher for the Trojans in all but one race this fall.
Strong efforts from Aadam Soorma, Paul Boothe and Terrence Dixon would improve the team's chances for a top-five finish also.
On the women's side, the Trojans biggest challenges will come from the host team, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and defending champions Western Kentucky.
The women will look to Jenean Corcoran, Martyna Pietryka and Jennifer Graham to provide front-running efforts for the team.
We are going to experience some big-time competition that should prepare us for the next three years,? Lambert said. With our youth orientation, both teams for the most part, will be getting their first taste of what a conference championship environment will be like.?
When we return next season, we will be coming back with ??veterans' as a result of this year's experience,? Lambert added. Nevertheless, there is a good chance that a couple of the kids could walk away with all-conference honors, and that would be a real bonus.?
The races will begin Saturday at Rebsamen Park on the banks of the Arkansas River. The course will open at 8 a.m. with the men running at 10 a.m. and the women at 11 a.m.
