Trojan Men Picked Fourth in Sun Belt Preseason Poll

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Troy men's basketball team has been picked fourth in the East Division in vote of Sun Belt Conference coaches, the league office announced today in conjunction with the annual media day in Lafayette, La.
The league also announced that Trojan Cedric Jackson is a member of the preseason second-team.The senior averaged 13.3 points and 5.0 rebounds over 29 games last year. He topped double figures in scoring 23 times, including a season high of 28 against Arkansas State in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.. Jackson posted three double-doubles by adding a career-high 10 rebounds against Oakwood, Niagara and Arkansas State (SBC Tournament)..
A native of Columbia, S.C., Jackson shot 45.1 percent from the field and a team-high 81.1 percent from the free throw line.. He was fourth on the team with 46 treys and second in blocks with 16.
The East Division poll was no surprise as perennial favorite Western Kentucky gained nine of 13 first-place votes enroute to 73 points. Defending league champion South Alabama earned two first-place votes and 60 points to place second. Middle Tennessee (one first-place vote) had 55 points compared to 41 points for the Trojans.
Florida International tallied 23 points, while newcomer Florida Atlantic finished last with 21 points, although they were listed first on one coach's ballot.
UALR was picked to win the West by just three points over New Orleans and North Texas, who tied for second. Arkansas State and Denver tied for fourth, with Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe rounded out the standings.
The league also announced Troy's first Sun Belt Conference television appearance. The home game against New Orleans on January 17 with be televised live as part of the ESPN Regional syndicated package.
