Cross Country Teams Kick Off 2005 Season
9/7/2005 12:00:00 AM | Track & Field
After losing the top two distance runners in Troy history to graduation, the women's team is looking to rebuild in 2005. Troy will return only two runners from last season, senior Julia Miller, who sat out most of 2004 due to injury, and junior Meghan Macdonald.
The women will rely on freshmen Jenean Corcoran, Jennifer Graham, Farrah Stewart and Mallory Wellman to contribute immediately for the success of the team.
Cross country is a team sport. All of the top 5 runners have to keep each other in sight throughout the race to score well as a team. That will be our challenge this season, not to get too spread out,” Director of track and field Bob Lambert said.
On the men's side, junior Brandon Hughes will once again be the leader on a team that is in its second year of rebuilding. Hughes will be joined by sophomore Jordan Mahan, who performed well as a freshman and will have to do so again this season.
In addition to the three returnees, Troy will look to five freshmen, Paul Boothe, Will Browder, Drew Horner, Ryan Sanders and Aadam Soorma to help earn points early for the success of the team.
The men's race will begin at 8 a.m. with the women's race to follow at 8:30 a.m. at the University of Florida Golf Complex.
