Lindsay Bass put ULM up early, scoring in the fifth minute off an assist by Rachel Spady. Rachel Hobson gave the Indians a 3-0 lead at the break as she scored in the 27th and 30th minutes off assists by Spady and Megan Theriot.
The Indians added to their lead in the second half when Stephanie Little scored on an assist from Amanda Wing.
Vanessa DaCosta put Troy on the scoreboard when she scored unassisted in the 80th minute, her first goal of the season.
This was a really strange game,” Troy head coach Diana Niland said. It was really evenly played, but the score just came out pretty lopsided. We both had nine shots, they were just able to finish on their attacks and we didn't. We controlled the ball for a lot of the second half, but we just weren't able to score.”
Laura Longard gave up four goals and recorded one save in 68 minutes of play for the Trojans. Jennifer Currie played the remaining 22 minutes at keeper for the Trojans. Emily Cobb and Jenna Mosher each recorded two shots, one on goal, for Troy. Megan Kosiba, Cydney Schultz, and AshleyJo Murry also took shots for the Trojans.
Both teams were whistled for 11 fouls in the match, and ULM had four corner kicks to Troy's three.
The Trojans finished 1-1 in the Jaguar Invitational, and senior Emily Cobb and Melanie Shea earned places on the all-tournament team.
The Trojans return to play on Friday when they open their inaugural Sun Belt season with a home contest against Arkansas State at 3 p.m.
