NEW ORLEANS - The Troy University soccer team lost its season opener on Friday, falling 2-0 to North Dakota State in the Tulane Tournament.
The Trojans (0-1-0) and Bison (1-0-0) entered halftime tied at zero, with the Bison out-shooting the Trojans 5-1. NDSU scored in the 60th minute on a shot from the top of the box by Jessica Rodgers, with the assist coming from Jestina Orlando. Rodgers added an unassisted goal late in the match to put NDSU up 2-0 with less than five minutes remaining.
Troy managed two shots in the match, both coming from freshman forward Beth McClendon. Junior goalkeeper Laura Longard played the entire match for Troy, notching two saves.
"It wasn't the result we wanted, but we did get some things out of it," Troy head coach Diana Niland said. "We did some things well today, and I think we learned from some of the things that we didn't do so well, so it was a productive game for us."
The Trojans return to action on Sunday when they play Tulane at 2:30 p.m.
