TROY, Ala. - Two members of the Troy University track and field team will begin competition on Wednesday in the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Juniors Michael Acree and Louis Harris will compete in the long jump and 100-meter dash respectively. Acree and Harris qualified on May 28 with their performances at the NCAA Mid-East Regionals.
Currently, Acree is ranked 11th in the nation in the long jump.
"I've been waiting for this ever since I came to this university," Acree said. "Out there, I want to jump well, hopefully place in the top five. There are so many good jumpers at this meet."
Harris is ranked 24th in the nation in the 100 meter dash.
This is the first time since moving to Division I that Troy has qualified athletes for the NCAA Championships.
"Their dedication to doing the little things every day has paid off," assistant Track and Field coach Andy McCampbell said. "Track is a sport you start in September. Here it is June and we're still working. These guys earned their place in this field."
Acree and Harris will each compete in the initial qualifying rounds on Wednesday, with the long jump finals scheduled for Thursday and the 100 meter finals slated for Friday.
