The Trojans head onto the road for the final four games of the 2005 regular season, starting with a non-conference game at intra-state rival Jacksonville State. Troy defeated JSU 8-3 in the first meeting of the year back on March 2.
Since that game, the Gamecocks have turned things around and they are currently in a battle for the Ohio Valley Conference title.
The Trojans closed their home schedule in style over the weekend, completing a three-game sweep of Stetson to clinch the 2005 A-Sun crown. The Trojans finished the season with a 21-5 mark at Riddle-Pace Field, the best home record since posting a 20-3 mark in 1999.
In the sweep of Stetson the Troy pitching staff held the best hitting team in the A-Sun conference to a .192 average over three games.
During Troy's current six-game win streak it has been a combination of pitching, defense and timely hitting that has produced victories. The streak has come against three high-powered offensive teams, but Troy has held them to a combined .186 batting average and the staff has an ERA over the six games of 2.50.
While the pitching has been outstanding, the Trojans have committed just five errors behind them and the offense has been hitting at a .330 clip. Adam Godwin, who won his third A-Sun Player of the Week award this week, is hitting .500 over the streak while Nick Smith is hitting .478.
In addition to his hitting, Godwin has run his national best stolen base total to 76, which is tied for the 8th best total in NCAA history.
Against JSU, Troy will send junior left-hander Jon Gianquitti (0-0, 4.86) to the mound for his second start. He worked 7 1/3 no-hit innings against USA last week. The Gamecocks will counter with sophomore left-hander Tony Drinkard (0-3, 7.67)
