After running few athletes at last weekend's South Alabama Invitational to allow the team rest in preparation for the A-Sun Championships on Friday the team will be out in full force.
This is what we spend all year training for, and hopefully we're ready to perform at the level it takes to bring back some hardware,” Director of track Bob Lambert said. We still are dealing with some minor injuries, but right now the focus is preparing ourselves mentally for the best collective performances we can possibly achieve. This weekend is all about team” and not individuals.”
The Trojans will turn to sophomores John Rodgers and Ryan Baker in the throws with each leading the conference in their respective events.
Also for the men's team, the 4x100-meter relay team of senior Emery Vickers and juniors Louis Harris, Don Pitter and Michael Acree.
Acree will also compete in the long, triple, and high jumps while Vickers, Harris and Pitter will compete in the sprints.Brandon Hughes will try to repeat last year's performance in the 1,500-meter run and defend his A-Sun champion title. Hughes will also compete in the 800-meter run.
On the women's side, senior Belinda Bargmann will head up the distance corps. Bargmann has broken the school record in the 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m runs this season. Bargmann will also run the 800m.
In the sprints, freshman Tawanna Meadows and sophomore Carrie Wallace will lead a strong sprint corps. Meadows and Wallace have each broken a school record this season. Meadows has also qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 100m.
Also for the Trojans, junior Katrina Lewis will be a strong contender in the throws. Lewis has broken the school record in the discus and hammer this season.
The major burden will be assumed by Belinda Bargmann, Katrina Lewis, Tawanna Meadows, and Carrie Wallace,” Lambert said. All four have been steady performers throughout the season and are the key to competing for the championship trophy.”
The competition will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday at the Vanderbilt Track Complex.
