Lewis Breaks Record in Opening Meet

The Enfield, N.C., native, finished third in the discus with a distance of 140'1” breaking the school record set in 1983 by Tammy Ruffian at 139'7.5”.
Lewis finished second in the shot put with a distance of 40'7.75” and third in the hammer with a throw of 138'5”. Lewis also placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 119'.
Freshman Kate Hyslop had an impressive collegiate debut in the javelin as she finished first in the event with a throw of 137'4”.
Sophomore Carrie Wallace finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.76 seconds, setting a personal best in the event.
Senior Belinda Bargmann set a personal best in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 4:38.72 which earned her a second-place finish. Bargmann also set a personal best in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.16 earning a third place finish.
Freshman Tawanna Meadows picked up right where she left off at the end of the indoor season with a second place finish in the 100-meter dash and a time of 11.83 seconds. Meadows also finished third in the 200- meter dash with a time do 24.55 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team composed of sophomores Ronella Gollman, Wallace, Quiana Chester and freshman Jocelyn Williams placed first with a time of 3:49.78.
The 4x100 meter relay team of junior Mildred Harris, sophomores Shakavia Henderson and Wallace, and Williams finished fourth with a time of 48.48.
On the men's side, junior Louis Harris won the 100 with a time of 10.66 seconds. Harris also finished second in the 200 with a time of 21.67 seconds.
Also in the 200, junior Don Pitter finished third with his time of 21.78 and sophomore DeLaRenta Hawkins placed fourth with his time of 22.65.
Pitter also placed fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.86 and senior Emery Vickers finished sixth with his time of 10.92.
Sophomore Brandon Hughes finished third in the 1,500 with a time of 3:57. Hughes also finished seventh in the 800 with his time of 1:56.40.
Sophomore Michael Morris placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.27 seconds.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Vickers, Pitter, Harris and junior Michael Acree, finished second behind Mississippi State with a time of 41.21 seconds.
Acree also finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 22'6.5”.
The 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Vickers, Pitter, Hawkins and freshman Nick Lambert also finished second behind Mississippi State with a time of 3:30.21.
Sophomore Scott Crews placed seventh in the pole vault with his jump of 14'5.25".
In the throws, senior Brennan Jack finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 47'6.25”. Jack also finished sixth in the hammer with a throw of 139'6”.
Sophomore Ryan Baker finished sixth in the discus with his throw of 148'7” and eighth in the hammer with a distance of 137'9”.
Sophomore John Rodgers finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 185'11”.
The Troy track and field team will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to New Orleans, La., to compete in the UNO Invitational.
