Troy, Ala. - There will be a lot on the line when the Troy University women's basketball team hosts Georgia State in its final home game of the season on Saturday at 7 p.m. The winner of the game will enter next week's Atlantic Sun Championship as the No. 2 seed. If the Trojans lose, they could finish as low as fifth.
The game also marks the last home game for Troy's three seniors, Kerri Fiehrer, Kandice Kirk and Laurie Tinsley. Fiehrer leaves Troy after starting every game in her four-year career. She also leaves as Troy's Division I assist leader.
The Trojans (12-14, 11-8 A-Sun) and Panthers (14-12, 12-7 A-Sun) met on Dec. 2 in Atlanta, with GSU escaping with a 62-60 win. Troy led by as many as 14 in that game, but they were not able to hold onto the win. That was the first in the string of eight losses during Troy's longest losing streak of the season.
The Trojans are coming off a 71-66 loss at Mercer in which they trailed the entire time. Troy was able to cut Mercer's lead to within three after trailing by 13, but the Bears' lead was too much for the Trojans to overcome.
The Trojans are led by sophomore Laura Lee Holman, who is averaging 13.5 points per game. Freshman Amy Lewis is second in scoring for Troy, averaging 12.7 points per game. Fiehrer leads the A-Sun with 5. 58 assists per game. She also leads the league with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Georgia State has not played since topping Stetson 72-67 on Feb. 26. The Panthers are led by the league's top scorer Patechia Hartman, who is averaging 16.6 points per game. Hartman is second only to Fiehrer in the A-Sun with 5.1 assists per game.
