10/6/2005 12:00:00 AM | Soccer
The Trojans (4-5-0, 2-2-0 Sun Belt) are coming off tough losses at North Texas and Denver, where the Trojans were outscored a combined 9-0. The Trojans hope their luck will improve as they return to the Trojan Soccer Complex, where they have not lost a match since Oct. 4, 2004.
Troy had a diverse offensive attack, with eight Trojans accounting for the team's 13 goals through the first nine games. Only three of those goals were scored by Trojans who were with the team in 2004, two coming from sophomore Brittany Stoltz and the third from junior Vanessa DaCosta. Junior Megan Kosiba leads Troy in goals scored with three. Along with Stoltz, senior Teresa Herring and freshman Beth McClendon have each added two.
Goalkeeper Laura Longard has allowed 21 goals and recorded 42 saves for a 66.7 save percentage.
Western Kentucky (2-5-3, 0-0-1 Sun Belt) enters the match on Friday with only one league game under its belt, drawing a double-overtime 2-2 draw with Middle Tennessee on Sunday. Offensively, the Lady Toppers have been led by Christi Banas, who has scored four goals and recorded one assist. Kalyn O'Shea has added three goals and an assist. Meredith Goodson has allowed 18 goals and recorded 61 saves in ten games at keeper for WKU.
Troy will be the third conference match for Middle Tennessee (6-3-1, 0-0-1 Sun Belt), who plays at South Alabama on Friday. The Blue Raiders have been led offensively by Rebecca Rodriguez, who has scored nine goals through the first ten matches.
Friday's match is set to kick off at 3 p.m., and a 1 p.m. start is slated for Sunday.
