Trojans Prepared for Sun Belt Championships
10/27/2005 12:00:00 AM | Track & Field
The meet was originally scheduled to be hosted by Florida International in Miami but due to the damage in South Florida caused by Hurricane Wilma the decision was made to move the event.
The Coach O was a tune-up for us in preparation for the Sun Belt Championships this weekend,” Director of track Bob Lambert said. We worked the team hard at practice last week, and it showed somewhat in that we weren't as strong physically as we'd normally be for a meet, but we were still strong enough to win our home event which is always good.”
The Troy men will look to junior Brandon Hughes as they have all season. Hughes won the Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors earlier this week for his performance at the Troy Coach O” Invitational. Hughes won the men's 5K with a time of 15:30.01.
Also for the men, freshmen Drew Horner, Aadam Soorma and Paul Boothe had strong performances at the Coach O” Invitational and will be expected to contribute this weekend.
For the women, freshman Farrah Stewart will be expected to lead the women as she has all season. Earlier this week Stewart earned Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors for her first individual title and win at the Coach O” Invitational.
Also for the women's team, freshmen Lauryn Higgins, Jennifer Graham and Jenean Corcoran performed well at the Coach O” and will be turned to again this week.
The men's 8K race will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's 5K to follow at noon at Kereiakes Park. The meet will still be streamed over the Internet at www.sunbeltsports.org, with the time of the web cast to be determined.
