The Ragin' Cajuns (4-7-3, 2-4-1) scored in the eighth minute when Meredith Smith scored off an assist from Ainsley Breum.
Both teams were held scoreless for the next 80 minutes, until ULL's Bridgette Adorno scored on an assist from Jennifer Hungate to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 2-0 lead with less than three minutes to play.
Troy senior Emily Cobb brought the Trojans (4-9-1, 2-5-1) to within one when she scored with just 40 seconds left, but the clock expired before the Trojans were able to get off another attempt.
We had some dangerous opportunities,” Troy head coach Diana Niland said. We just did not finish them off. They played better than we did today, but we had our chances.”
Several of those attempts were cut short as the Trojans were whistled for nine offsides penalties.
The Ragin' Cagins outshot the Trojans 26-7, including a 17-5 advantage in shots on goal. Trojans goalkeeper Laura Longard recorded 14 saves and allowed two goals in the loss. ULL keeper Stephanie Weston allowed one goal while notching four saves.
The match could be the Trojans' final game of the season. Troy was originally scheduled to play FIU on Sunday, but that game was cancelled due to Hurricane Wilma. That game will not be made up unless it is needed to determine the participants in the Sun Belt Tournament, which includes the league's top eight teams. Troy is in a tie for seventh-place in the league, with Arkansas State also holding a 2-5-1 conference record.
