TROY, Ala. - South Alabama spoiled Senior Day for the Troy University soccer team, as the Jaguars (7-4-1, 5-2-0) topped the Trojans (4-7-1, 2-4-1) 4-0 in Sun Belt play on Friday. South Alabama scored just 14 minutes into play, when Kelly Tarrant relayed a blocked Jaguar shot to Jenn Beckwith, who scored from less than 10 yards out. Beckwith scored her second goal of the game in the 57th minute when she tracked down goalkeeper Kelsie Langford's punt ahead of the pack, and her shot from the left side of the field found the back of the net. Tarrant scored in the 66th minute when she was able to maneuver through a pack of Trojans and score from 15 yards out on the left side. In the 88th minute, Trojans goalkeeper Laura Longard appeared to have stopped USA's Allison Brubeck's free kick when she knocked it into the crossbar. The officials ruled that the ball had broken the plane, and the goal gave the Jaguars the 4-0 win. This was a frustrating game,” Troy head coach Diana Niland said. We came out flat, and we never recovered.” The Jaguars outshot the Trojans 20-7 in the match, including a 10-3 advantage on shots on goal. Troy was whistled for nine fouls, while USA was tagged with eight. Longard finished with six saves and four goals allowed for Troy, and Langford tallied three saves in the shutout for USA. The Trojans will take a short break from Sun Belt play, when they travel to in-state foe Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
