Trojans Fall to UCF 55-43

Orlando, Fla. --- The Troy University women's basketball team could not find their offensive stride as they fell 55-43 at UCF on Saturday. Just two days after hitting 50 percent of their attempts from the floor, the Trojans offense cooled as they shot just 28.6 percent from the floor in the loss.
Sophomore Laura Lee Holman led the Trojans (2-9, 1-3 A-Sun) with 16 points, including four threes. Sophomore Audrey Muse finished with eight points and 11 rebounds, and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Junior Alecia Jones also finished with eight points for the Trojans.
The Trojans shot 16-of-56 (28.6 percent) from the floor, including 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) from behind the arc. The Trojans finished 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from the free-throw line.
Shelby Weber finished with 14 points to lead UCF. Ali Roberts finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Celeste Hudson also pulled down eight rebounds for the Knights.
UCF (5-6, 3-1 A-Sun) shot 21-of-51 (41.2 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from the three-point line. The Knights hit 10-of-19 of their free-throw attempts.
The Trojans trailed 20-18 with 4:40 left in the half, when the Golden Knights ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 27-18 lead into the break.
Holman was the only Trojan to hit more than one field goal in the first period, and she led Troy with five first-half points. Jones led the Trojans with five rebounds in the first half.
The Trojans shot 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from the floor in the first half, and they were just 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from behind the three-point line. The Trojans were 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) on their first-half free-throw attempts.
Roberts led UCF in the first half with six points and seven rebounds. UCF shot 12-of-30 (40 percent) from the floor in the first half, including 3-of-10 (30 percent) from behind the arc. UCF did not attempt any free throws in the first period.
The Trojans cut the UCF lead to 31-25 with 16:37 left to play, but then hit a six-minute scoring drought where the Knights stretched their lead to 38-25 with 10:29 left. Troy was able to close the gap to eight, but could not get any closer on the way to the loss.
Troy shot 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) from the floor in the second half, and 3-of-7 from the three-point line. Troy hit 2-of-5 (40 percent) of its second-half free-throw attempts. Holman scored 11 of her points in the second half.
UCF shot 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from the floor in the second period, and they shot 0-of-4 from behind the arc. The Knights connected on 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) of their second-half free-throw attempts.
With the loss the Trojans extend their losing streak to seven, the team's longest since dropping nine straight in 2001-02.
The Trojans return to action on Thursday when they host Stetson at 5:15 p.m.
