Trojans Drop Sixth Straight With Loss at FAU

The Troy University women's basketball team dropped its sixth-straight game as they fell 72-67 at Florida Atlantic in an Atlantic Sun contest on Thursday. It was Troy's seventh-straight loss to the Owls.
Alecia Jones led the Trojans (2-8, 1-2 A-Sun) with 20 points, 16 scored in the second half. Amy Lewis scored 16 for Troy, and Laura Lee Holman and Audrey Muse each scored 13 points in the loss. Muse completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Kerri Fiehrer had eight assists in the game.
The Trojans shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the floor, including 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the arc. Troy shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the free-throw line in the game.
Shontavia Williams led FAU (3-8, 1-3 A-Sun) with 19 points, including a 9-of-9 performance from the free-throw line.
The Owls shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the field, including 40 percent (6-of-15) from behind the three-point line. FAU finished 18-of-24 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.
FAU led 17-12 at the 10:30 mark when the Trojans went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game, leading 18-17 with 8:46 left in the first period. The Trojans held the Owls scoreless from the floor until the 3-minute mark, but they were unable to build more than a five-point lead. Williams scored eight points for FAU, four from the free-throw line, in the final three minutes to help FAU take a 29-26 lead into the break.
It was a sloppy half for both teams, with Troy committing 16 turnovers, seven caused by FAU steals. The Trojans had six steals of their own in the first 20 minutes, as FAU had 10 turnovers in the half.
Holman and Lewis each had eight first-half points for Troy. The Trojans shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the floor in the first period, shooting 0-of-4 from beyond the three-point line. Lewis was the only Trojan to reach the free-throw line in the first half, connecting on four of her six attempts.
Williams led the Owls in the first half with 12 first-half points. Jackie Brown added nine for FAU. The Owls shot 30.3 percent (10-of-33) from the field in the first half, including a 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) performance from behind the arc. The Owls shot 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) from the free-throw line in the first half.
