Trojans Fall at No. 13 Vanderbilt

Troy (2-7) was led by freshman Amy Lewis, who finished with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Sophomore guard Laura Lee Holman led the Trojans with seven rebounds. Senior guard Kerri Fiehrer finished with five assists.
The Trojans shot 21-of-52 (40.4 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from the three-point line. Troy went to the free-throw line twice, converting one.
Vanderbilt (11-1) shot 58.2 percent (32-of-55) from the floor, and hit 44.4 percent (8-of-18) of its three-point attempts. The Commodores went 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
Four Commodores finished in double figures, led by Ashley Earley, who scored 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Earley also led Vanderbilt with seven rebounds.
Vanderbilt had been averaging more than 96 points per game at home, and the Trojans are the first team to shoot better than 40 percent at Memorial Gym.
I'm very proud of our effort,” said Troy head coach Michael Murphy. The girls did everything we asked them to do. They played hard on every possession, and they played with a purpose. There are a lot of positives we can take from this game, and we hope that it carries over into conference play.”
The Trojans fell behind early in the first half, trailing by as many as 20 before heading into the locker room down 39-21.
The Trojans were led in the first 20 minutes by Laurie Tinsley, who shot 2-of-3 (66.7 percent) from beyond the three-point line for six first-half points. The Trojans shot 8-of-24 (33 percent) in the first half, including a 5-of-10 (50 percent) effort from behind the arc. Troy did not shoot any free throws in the first period.
Vanderbilt had a hot hand in the first period, shooting 50 percent (16-of-32) from the floor. The Commodores shot 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) from three-point land, and they finished a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe in the first half. Abi Ramsey and Carla Thomas led Vanderbilt with 11 and 10 first-half points, respectively.
The Commodores got even hotter in the second half, shooting 16-of-23 (69.6 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-5 (80 percent) from the three-point line. They hit three of their four second-half free-throw attempts.
The game rounded out Troy's non-conference schedule. The Trojans return to conference play on Thursday when they play at Florida Atlantic.
