T&F Women Open 2005 Season

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's indoor track and field team will begin the 2005 season when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Purple Tiger Invite on Saturday.
The 2005 season will be the last season in the Atlantic Sun conference for the Trojans who will move to the Sun Belt conference in 2006.
"We are ready to get the season kicked off after good training in the off-season," Troy Director of track and field Bob Lambert said. "The freshmen are anxious and excited for their first meet."
The short sprints corps will turn to junior Tanisha Davis who finished in the top-10 at every indoor meet for the Trojans in 2004.
Davis will be joined by sophomores Ronella Gollman and Shakavia Henderson and freshman Tawanna Meadows in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Sophomores Quiana Chester and Carrie Wallace and freshman Jocelyn Williams will compete in the 400.
Chester, Gollman, Wallace and Williams will also run the 4x400-meter relay for the Trojans.
Sophomores Meghan Macdonald and Erin Kniery will compete in the distance events for the Trojans. Macdonald will run the 800 and the mile, while Kniery will compete in the 3,000-meter run.
The jumping events will be led by junior Jennifer Hogg, who will be joined by sophomore Monique Johnson and freshman Erin Clymer in the high jump. Johnson and Clymer will also compete in the 60m high hurdles. Freshman Karla Blakenship will compete in the pole vault.
The throws will be one of the strongest events for the Trojans with senior Ioanna Dafermou and junior Katrina Lewis returning. Dafermou and Lewis will be joined by freshman Shenita Howell in the weight throw and shot put.
"We are expecting a strong performance from Katrina Lewis in the weight throw," Lambert said. "She had a great week of practice and we are ready to see her compete."
The competition begins on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Maddox Field House.
