Troy beats Grambling 5-1 for first win of the season

TROY, Ala. - Troy, Ala. --- The Troy University soccer team earned its first win of the season, beating host Grambling State 5-1 in the Grambling State Invitational on Sunday. Freshman midfielder Kate Hyslop led the Trojans with three goals, all in the second half.
Grambling State's Candice Nzeakor scored at the 20:46 mark to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Karlie Bierie scored on an assist by Julie Peratt nine minutes later to tie the game.
Hyslop scored her first goal unassisted 7:30 into the second half to give TROY its first lead of the game. Junior defender Emily Cobb scored unassisted at the 77:54 mark, and Hyslop scored her second goal just five minutes later. Hyslop completed the hat trick with less than a minute to play, giving TROY the 5-1 victory.
The Trojans out shot the Tigers 17-6, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half. Cathy Truszkowski kept goal for the first half, allowing one goal and tallying one save. Laura Longard protected the net for the Trojans in the second half, getting one save.
On Friday, the Trojans dropped their first match of the invitational, falling 2-0 to Centenary College.
The Trojans (1-2-1) return to action on Friday, Sept. 10 when the travel to Tuscaloosa to face in-state rival Alabama.
