Troy falls in season opener

Clarksville, Tenn . - The Diana Niland era at TROY began with a loss as the Trojans fell 4-3 in overtime in the Austin Peay Lady Govs Invitational on Friday.
Junior Emily Cobb put the Trojans on the board with a goal at the 3:09 mark off an assist by Brittany Stoltz to put TROY up 1-0. The Sycamores' Lauren Podolski responded with a goal in the ninth minute to tie the game at 1. Freshmen Karlie Bierie put TROY back on top when she scored off a Vanessa Da Costa assist at 26:22. Four minutes later Stoltz scored unassisted to give TROY a 3-1 advantage at the break.
ISU's Nichole Tiggs found the back of the net twice in the second half, knotting the score at 3. Indiana State's Claire Hemkens broke the tie with a goal in the second minute of overtime, giving ISU the 4-3 win.
Indiana State outshot TROY 27-11. Trojan goalkeeper Laura Longard had 14 saves and four goals allowed.
TROY (0-1) resumes play on Sunday when they face tournament host Austen Peay at 2 p.m.
