Troy, Ala. - The Troy University women's basketball team signed the first member of its 2005-06 class when Kylie Morrissy committed to Troy during the early signing period, head coach Michael Murphy announced on Tuesday.
Morrissy, a senior guard from Geelong, Victoria, Australia, represented Country Victoria in six Australian Country championships, helping Country Victoria finish as under-16 runner-up in 2002. She competed in the under-18 national tournament for Country Victoria in 2003 and 2004, and was named captain of the 2004 team.
Morrissy has been a member of Basketball Australia's Intensive Training Center Program for four years, graduating from the program in 2004. She was also one of 14 girls selected to participate in the Australian Institute of Sport's All-Australian Squad camp in January 2003.
Morrissy also had a successful track and field career. She qualified to attend the Victorian all-school's meet in 2004, winning the 100m dash, the 100m hurdles, and the triple jump.
"Kylie comes from a basketball rich part of Australia," said Murphy. "The state of Victoria is know for its basketball, and she'll certainly be a welcome addition to our tea m. She's able to play different positions defensively, and she can score from the wing position. She's a very basketball-savvy athlete."
