Harland Bower is in first season as a graduate assistant with the Troy football program; he will work with the Trojan defense.
Bower joins the Troy staff after one season at Rutgers as the defensive quality control coach. He spent the 2011 season as the assistant football strength and conditioning coach at Murray State.
Bower was the defensive backs coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia Military College in 2010.
He began his playing career at Central Michigan, where he redshirted his freshman year. Bower then transferred to Georgia Southern for his final three seasons.
Bower was a prep standout at East Ridge High School, where he holds the distinction of being the first ERHS athlete to sign with a Division I program. He was a four-year starter for the Knights, finishing his career with a school-record 340 tackles.
Bower received his bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in criminal justice, from Georgia Southern in 2009.
