Saini Tied for First; Troy Women’s Golf Fires First Under-Par Round Since 2023

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Manya Saini picked up where she left off last season, shooting a career-best 5-under 66 to lead the Troy women's golf team in Sunday's opening round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

Troy shot 2-under in the opening round of the season; it's the Trojans' first team round under-par since February of 2023, when the Trojans also shot 2-under in the second round of The Atlantic Invitational.

Saini shot under-par in two of her final four rounds last season and kicked off her fourth year with the Trojans with six birdies and just one bogey. She is tied for first overall after the opening 18 holes. She shot 3-under on the par 5s and was 1-under on both the par 4s and par 3s.

Troy's three first-year players held their own in the first collegiate rounds, as Roberta Alvarez and Mara Dajer shot even-par, while Anna Rolden Sewald finished 3-over par. Alvarez carded three birdies and added an eagle on the par-5 eighth; Dajer had a trio of birdies and Rolden Sewald added a birdie and also had an eagle on the eighth.

The Trojans came out blazing hot with their four counting bags, carding a 10-under on the front nine.

Alvarez and Dajer are tied for 24th place after the opening day of play, and Rolden Sewald is tied for 64th. Evelyn Tankersely carded a pair of birdies in her round of 81.

High Point is the clubhouse leader at 11-under followed by Campbell at 6-under and East Tennessee at 4-under. Troy is part of a quartet of teams tied at 2-under in fourth place.

Play continues Monday with the second round.
