TROY, Ala. - Troy soccer played to its first draw of the 2026 season, battling Kennesaw State to a 2-2 draw on Friday evening.

Troy (1-4-1) scored goals from Madisyn Marchesi and Alaina Uncapher, each tallying their second goal of the season.

The Trojans were outshot by Kennesaw State (2-3-2) 21-16, as Taylor Richards made seven saves, including a denial of an Owl from inside the 6-yard box late in the second half.

Troy opened the match on the offensive, scoring on its second shot of the match. A perfect delivery on a corner from Brooke Slater allowed Marchesi to get on the end of a header, pushing the Trojans ahead early.

Neither team recorded another shot for the next 10 minutes, as Kennesaw State's Ashley Tan took the Owls' first shot of the match in the 18th minute.

Action came quickly in the coming minutes, and KSU evened the scoreline at one apiece after a video replay confirmed a penalty shot for the visitors. Anabel Orozco converted the pinalty, beating Richards to the left side to even the scoreline, which held into the halftime break.

Kennesaw State dominated the second half offensively, taking 16 shots opposed to Troy's eight. However, it was Troy who struck first in the 50th minute, as video replay went in the Trojans' favor. VAR confirmed that Irene Torres was pushed in the box, and Uncapher buried the ensuing penalty to put Troy ahead once again.

Pressure continued to build on Troy's backline, but Richards continued to answer the call in net. Six of Richards' seven saves came in the second half.

The tying goal came off an Owl corner, as Orozco delivered a ball that was headed into the back of the net by Melissa Mert in the 78th minute.

Once level, the final 12 minutes were played with minimal chances, leading to a 2-2 draw.

"We had the lead twice and gave the momentum back to [Kennesaw State] late, but we're overall pleased; I thought we created a lot of chances and passed the ball much better than we did against [Jacksonville State]. We aren't used to winning games here, so I think there's a lesson to be learned on how to manage a game when you have a lead late. It's a process, and we're trying to grow and evolve each game."
